“The high priest rose up and all his companions, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and, filled with jealousy, laid hands upon the Apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night, the angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison, led them out, and said, ‘Go and take your place in the temple area, and tell the people everything about this life.’” ~ ACTS5:17-26  How amazing to have Angels opening doors to lead the Apostles!  Yet, I know the Lord has blessed me with Angels who opened doors for me along my journey.  Take time today to recall all the doors the Lord opened for you.

In the silence, the Lord opens doors easily…

“Our soul waits for the Lord, who is our help and our shield. May your kindness, O Lord, be upon us who have put our hope in you.” ~ PS33

Have you put your hope in the Lord?

In the silence, my soul waits with hope…

“So when he had washed their feet and put his garments back on and reclined at table again, Jesus said to them, ‘Do you realize what I have done for you? You call me ‘teacher’ and ‘master,’ and rightly so, for indeed I am. If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.’” ~ JN13:1-15

In the silence, follow the master…

“The Lord remembers his covenant for ever” ~ PS105  A covenant is an agreement,  pledge, contract, and promise.  I imagine there are times when you forget God’s promises.  Especially when things get tough, take time to recall all the ways God has lead you up until now.  What were your touchstone moments with God?

In the silence, you can count on God…

“He will come to us like the rain, like spring rain that waters the earth” ~ HOS6:1-6   We have rain in the local weather forecast.  Spring showers have arrived for another season, washing away the grime of winter.  The rain nourishes the plants, and promotes new growth.

In the silence, welcoming the spring rain…

“I trust in the Lord; my soul trusts in his word. My soul waits for the Lord more than sentinels wait for the dawn.” ~ PS130   I watched a beautiful sunrise this morning.  The sky was filled with red light.  The old saying, “red sky in the morning, sailor take warning” came to my mind at that moment.  If I trust God with my day, and move along in tandem, I don’t have to watch out for bad things to come my way.

In the silence, anticipating the dawn…

against us

“John said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.’ Jesus replied, ‘Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us.’” ~ MK9:38-40  The Winter Olympic games in Sochi ended last week.  As I watched on television, I noticed physical similarities of the athletes in each event.  The teams are divided by countries, but the athletes could be mistaken for each other by me, an outsider.  Division rules us, rather than cooperation.  In the silence, praying for unity…

“When the priests left the holy place, the cloud filled the temple of the Lord so that the priests could no longer minister because of the cloud, since the Lord’s glory had filled the temple of the Lord.” ~ 1KGS8:1-13  You can’t control a cloud.  Clouds are out of your reach.  Imagine an experience of the glory of the Lord as a cloud.

In the silence, glory filled the temple…

“Blessed may you be, O Lord, God of Israel our father, from eternity to eternity. Yours, O Lord, are grandeur and power, majesty, splendor, and glory. Lord, you are exalted over all. Yours, O Lord, is the sovereignty; you are exalted as head over all. Riches and honor are from you. In your hand are power and might; it is yours to give grandeur and strength to all.” ~ 1CHR29:10-13   Take time today to contemplate the majesty, grandeur, and splendor of God.

In the silence, awed by God…

“Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother” ~ MK3:31-35  A person who is a relative is interconnected, related, and dependent.  Would you consider yourself a close relative of Jesus?

In the silence, relate to Jesus…
