“The disciples of Jesus recounted what had taken place along the way, and how they had come to recognize him in the breaking of bread. While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost. Then he said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.’” ~ LK24:35-48

“God is our refuge and our strength, an ever-present help in distress. Therefore we fear not, though the earth be shaken and mountains plunge into the depths of the sea.” ~ PS46

“This, rather, is the fasting that I wish: releasing those bound unjustly, untying the thongs of the yoke; setting free the oppressed, breaking every yoke; sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless; clothing the naked when you see them, and not turning your back on your own.” ~ IS58:1-9A  How do you help those in need?

In the silence, give generously…

“The Lord is kind and merciful. He pardons all your iniquities; he heals all your ills. He redeems your life from destruction; he crowns you with kindness and compassion. Merciful and gracious is the Lord, slow to anger and abounding in kindness. He will not always chide, nor does he keep his wrath forever. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so surpassing is his kindness toward those who fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has he put our transgressions from us.” ~ PS103  Unfortunately, most people don’t believe that God is so kind and merciful.  They believe God is ready to zap them right back into shape, and it will hurt!  Today, imagine that God’s care is the most kind, merciful, and gracious you will ever experience.  In the silence, God is love…

“Love never fails” ~ 1COR13:1-13

I know that I fail at times.  I don’t do it on purpose.  God never fails us, even if it feels like it.  When you don’t know what to do next, wait, be still, and get quiet.  Wait on Love to guide your next step.

In the silence, God’s Love thrives…

“Jesus also told them, ‘Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you. To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.’” ~ MK4:21-25  Everything does not get divided evenly among us.  Some people seem to get more than others.  Can you trust that God has the perfect amount for you?

“Have mercy on me, O God; have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. In the shadow of your wings I take refuge, till harm pass by. I call to God the Most High, to God, my benefactor. May he send from heaven and save me; may he make those a reproach who trample upon me; may God send his mercy and his faithfulness. Be exalted above the heavens, O God; above all the earth be your glory! For your mercy towers to the heavens, and your faithfulness to the skies.” ~ PS57  How have you experienced God’s mercy?

“Then Zechariah his father, filled with the Holy Spirit, prophesied, saying: ‘Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has visited and brought redemption to his people. He has raised up a horn for our salvation within the house of David his servant…In the tender compassion of our God, the dawn from on high shall break upon us, to shine on those who sit in darkness and death’s shadow, to guide our feet into the path of peace.’” ~ LK1:67-80  During our Advent Retreat last weekend, we focused on the First Chapter in the Gospel of Luke, and in particular, the faith of Zechariah.  Read over Luke Chapter One and study Zechariah.  Wonders, Miracles, and God Surprises abound in these verses.

“What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? As it is written: For your sake we are being slain all the day; we are looked upon as sheep to be slaughtered. No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” ~ ROM8:31B-39
