In the Silence…

Contemplative Thoughts

Stepping though a new door

A friend asked me to help out with a retreat ministry, and my calendar was free on the scheduled retreat dates.  I have been preparing for the next step, and I felt like this is it, a new door opened.  I could feel within me that it was right, and my discernment was quick and I said, “Yes!”  My past experience with retreats fits with this one, and the timing seems right.

I stepped through the open door.

In the silence, let go of the past, and prepare for the new door God is opening…

I enjoy flowers.  I like looking at them, touching them, and smelling them.  What a wonderful creation, the color, the fragrance, the shape, and the structure.  What has it taken to make a single flower?  The seed, the sun, the rain, the care…

You are more complex than a flower.  In the silence, ponder what care was taken in the creation of You…

Searching for meaning

I enjoy reading the Psalms in Sacred Scripture.  Today I am reading and reflecting on Psalm 139.  I am mediating on a deeper meaning, and what is it that God wants to reveal to me today?  “How precious to me are your designs, O God; how vast the sum of them”  I often use Psalm 139 during a first meeting with people for Spiritual Direction.  What they think about this Psalm, usually tells me a lot about their Image of God.  In the silence, read, meditate and search for what deeper meaning God is revealing to you…

Seeking a level path

A friend recently told me that I was on a level path, I’m not sure I agree…so I am considering what she meant.

What is a level path in the Spiritual Life?

In the silence, seek a level path toward God…

A single flutter of the butterfly’s wings is said to be able to change the weather.  How much more do the actions that we take, change the whole world?

In the silence, consider what your thoughts and actions have been today, and how they affect the whole world…

Praying for others

Every day when I wake up, as soon as I am conscious, I begin to pray.  I don’t have to move to pray.  I remember those who asked for my prayers, and I pray for those who come to my mind.  I ask that God guide me and help me throughout my day.  Praying at the start of the day helps me to keep my focus on God.

How do you pray?  In the silence, pray for those who are coming to your mind right now…

Changing old patterns

Someone just asked me how to stop cursing. I said, “Shut your mouth.” It really is that simple. Things that we want to change about ourselves aren’t always difficult.  We make it difficult.

We keep our mouth open, when wisdom says, keep it shut.

In the silence, accept a simple change…

I can feel a deep gratitude today in my whole body and mind.          I wish I had more days like this one.   I feel the deepest peace with in.  Peace with myself and with others.

Can you let your body, mind, and spirit be filled with God’s peace?   In the silence, let there be peace…

Contemplating my work

It is all about God, all for God, thanks God!

How blessed I am to read Scripture, pray, talk about, and listen about God all day long.  I am a Spiritual Director, such a person, who listens and prays with others on their journey to a closer relationship with God.  The best way to start this journey is with prayer, and so we begin…

in the silence let your heart speak to God, and let God’s heart speak to you…
